Tom Rhodes Lithgow Perkins

Name: Tom Rhodes

Job title: Senior Accountant

Qualifications: AAT

Specialisms: Accounts Preparation

What do you love about working in accountancy?

I have always enjoyed working with numbers, and accountancy combines this with an insight into the workings of a large variety of businesses. I enjoy seeing how businesses work on a day-to-day operational level and then putting this together in a set of accounts to summarise the whole year’s performance.

If you weren’t working in accountancy, what job would you be doing?

I went straight from school into my current job so it is hard to imagine myself working anywhere else or doing anything different. I would maybe like to do something sport-related such as physiotherapy.

What have been the highlights of your career so far?

I am currently studying towards my ACA qualification, with one exam left to pass. With every stage, the studying and exams get harder and harder, and every exam that I pass is probably the new highlight.

What are the challenges of your job?

One of the main challenges I have faced has been balancing my studying commitments with my job. Another challenge is time management and prioritising certain work to meet deadlines.

What makes Lithgow Perkins stand out from other accountancy firms?

Lithgow Perkins is known in the local area for providing a high level of customer service and support to clients of all sizes, from sole traders who are just starting up to larger companies who are well established.

What’s great about doing business in the Harrogate area?

Harrogate is very picturesque and a nice place to live in general. The small size of the town gives it a familiar feel and everyone seems to be friendly. The conference centre offers a diverse range of exhibitions and attracts people from other areas of the country, which local business have benefited from.

How do you relax?

My main mode of relaxation is to play sport. I play for local football and cricket teams. I also like to listen to music and read in my spare time.

Tell us something surprising about yourself.

I have done a skydive from 15,000 feet.
