Meet the Team: Stuart Abbott
13th April 2018
Name: Stuart Abbott
Job title: Trusts and Tax Manager
What do you love about working in accountancy?
As I work predominantly in tax, I feel my work has a tangible benefit to clients as effective tax planning can save them hundreds or even thousands of pounds.
If you weren’t working in accountancy, what job would you be doing?
I think I’d be doing something manual. I’ve always been interested in cars and motorbikes so it wouldn’t surprise me if I had gone down that route.
What have been the highlights of your career so far?
I guess it may be the obvious one, but qualifying with the ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) definitely felt like an achievement.
What are the challenges of your job?
Balancing workload. It often feels like everything comes in at once and it can be difficult to decide which job takes priority over another without specific deadlines.
What makes Lithgow Perkins stand out from other accountancy firms?
I think that, as a firm, we tend to have a lot of longstanding clients, which I feel shows that clients must value the level of service we provide.
What’s great about doing business in the Harrogate area?
Harrogate is a lovely town to work in, both because of the people and the town itself. The solicitors and investment firms we work alongside are all friendly yet professional, and the town offers a great environment for taking a nice break on our lunchtime.
How do you relax?
Walking my dogs, eating too much, watching TV and playing Xbox. Once I pass my bigger bikes test, I imagine a ride out on my motorbike will be something I’ll enjoy.
Tell us something surprising about yourself.
I have roughly 300 songs on my Spotify and think I could name song and artist of (most of) them from the first couple of seconds.
